I used to be able to Watch DVD Movies in media center and windows media player and now when I try to view a movie it says it isn't recognized.

This happens to me when I get into a cruising the net jag. There is a thing out there called Malware. It does nasty little things to your computer. Your computer may have software on it that tries to stop the malware, but in the course of events drivers get knocked out of whack. I know this is not technical but it is sort of what happens.

Go into your settings>control panel>sound and see if your device is working properly. If it is then you may have to download Adobe flash drive or a newer version. That may not be what you have, so you have to check. That's usually my problem. The computer guys I go to are really good in explaining to me what I need to do over the phone. Takes me a while but I get there.

Then I reboot and everything is fine. Hope This Helps. Good luck.

So i have everything hooked up, but all i can see on my TV is the wallpaper from my computer. i can't see any of my icons or even the toolbar. So can someone please tell me how i can see my computer desktop on the screen? thank you!

Could be a problem with the resolution you have the computer set to. I would need to know if the t.v you have it hooked up to is hd and how exactly (what kind of cables) you have it hooked up to be very helpful. But in general, try changing your pc's resolution. Do this by right clicking anywhere on the desktop and clicking "display settings" or "personalize" (depends on OS), then find a tab or menu option that allows you to change resolution, (again depends on the OS) flip through different resolutions (1024x768, 1440x900, etc.) until you find one that (maybe) works.

I don't want cable tv because they just ripped me off with their internet service which I canceled two days ago. I don't want to have anything to do with them. I have DSL now. Since I don't want to get cable tv, I tried to get satellite with Directv but the apartment where I live won't allow satellites on their property because of risk of damage. So what other choice do I have to watch good TV? I heard about PC satellite, but I wasn't sure if this was a legitimate service?

They aren't particularly legitimate, as their MO does not jive with the MO of the channels they claim to carry, and the channels have very big swing, so those channels would outright say no to such a venture.

What they seem to actually sell is a list of channels that stream fro free, and they are nothing like what they advertise.

Unless your telephone/DSL provider specifically has an IPTV service, there is little you can do, but figure how to install a satellite dish without raising the ire of the apartment management, or settle your differences with the cable company.

If you are okay with just broadcast channels, you can get an antenna and a digital convertor box. Some cable channels to have their content online for purchase or streaming.

I have a VGA at the back of my HDTV and a VGA at the back of my PC would it work? (cant be bothered moving pc just now)

Sure! The display card or chipset in your PC has to be able to put out HDTV resolutions and refresh rates, but if it does, the VGA port absolutely can display HDTV. I am using a digital tuner in my PC (with Windows Media Center) connected to an HDTV with VGA port in my family room. It works fine.

I'm trying to program a new remote so that I can control a Direct Tv satellite receiver box serial # a01ca6bx141078
Is that possible? I've searched the internet for device codes and haven't found one. Any suggestions???

EDIT 4: Before I get another DMCA filed against me, I'd like to say I have put this online as I belive this can be counted as fair use, as it criticises Warner Bros. Remastered DVD version. I really hope someone at Warner sees this, and by the time the Blu-ray reissue is released, the audio problems that were encountered on the DVD release have been resolved!

EDIT 3: Ok, it was recorded on Friday 6th May 1988 (Thankyou TELETEXT! or back in the day, ORACLE!!)

EDIT 2: Looking at some of the adverts, it can't have been the 1982 recording, so the next record I have for channel 4 ever showing the film was in 08/1994 (MM/YYYY) So the quality is still pretty good despite its age! Can anyone confirm this date?

EDIT: I think this was recorded off Channel 4 on 05/11/1982 DD/MM/YYYY --- Not bad for a 25 year old VHS recording now is it?

Here is something I found on a VHS tape. From the film Woodstock (1970). Joe Cocker - A Little Help From My Friends

I have seen what looks like a remastered version on youtube, but the backing singers seem weird, I think only one of them is coming through and is too loud! This version has both backing singers and sounds pretty descent!

This particular copy of Woodstock was recorded from Channel 4 (UK) in the late 80's (if anyone has an exact date, that would be nice) just a few years before I was born! The quality is excellent!
