I have a Dell XPS 7100, which includes a tv tuner. I have a Belkin N wireless router. My satellite receiver is a Dish VIP 722. Is there an additional component I may need to accomplish this? I'm trying to avoid having to run a cable from one end of the house to the pc room. Thanks!!

No. Not the way you think.

What you're proposing is to relay the signal through some sort of device to your TV tuner. As far as I know, you can't transmit the original signal using the same medium (over the air), since the only thing that can transmit ATSC and other TV signals over the air are TV broadcasters and cable/satellite companies. They have special equipment and satellite dishes to do that (as well as a license from the FCC).

You can buy a Media Extender (like for Windows Media Center PCs)...an Xbox 360 is capable of this, but it's usage and setup is different from what you're asking for. You want to send the signal from the TV to your PC's tuner...not without another PC sitting next to the satellite box. The PC can take the TV and re-send it over WiFi to a Media Extender device like an Xbox 360 which is hooked up to your TV so you can watch stuff from your PC...so that obviously won't work for what you're asking.

You can, however, ask for or rent a second satellite box that can be placed in the same room as the PC and hook it up to the tuner. The cabling is already embedded in your house's walls, so it wouldn't be like running a second cable along the floor.

Just a few months ago, I came across an ad for Satellite Direct. While the concept of it looked amazing to me, the first thing that went through my head was Satellite Direct scam. Like anything you buy online, I was a bit skeptical to say the last. Another thought that went through my mind was is Satellite Direct legal?. Both of these things were concerns of mine, so I had to do my research.

I was so tempted to buy the product right then and there. I was living in Europe for 90 days on a work assignment, and my favorite football team was playing a really big game later that day. The idea of downloading software that would let me see this game right away was too good to be true. I was still skeptical of a Satellite Direct scam.

So, I spent the next few hours reading up on the product. I wanted to make sure that the quality was good, that it had as many channels as advertised, and most importantly, I wanted to make sure that Satellite Direct wasnt illegal.

I was happy to learn that Satellite Direct is in fact legal and legitimate, thanks to something called the Free to Air protocol, which allows for mass viewing of local and national TV stations from all over the world.

I also read a bunch of different user reviews who praised the digital HD quality of the stations they watched. On top of that, I saw a high profile technology magazine that gave Satellite Direct high marks. Once I saw that a reputable publication was talking this software up, I decided that it was definitely worth taking my chances on. As a Mac user, I was pretty happy to see that itd work on both PCs and Macs.

I decided to download the software from there. For $49 it was less than one months worth of cable. Since Id never have to pay for cable monthly again from there, I figured it was well worth it.

Anyway, within about 5 minutes from making my payment I was up and running. All I had to do was download the software and install it. It couldnt have been easier. The best part about it was that the product does work as advertise. The picture was crisp, the sound was great, it didnt freeze up or get choppy, and there are a ton of TV stations. Plus, I got to see the Falcons win their football game that day

At the moment, there are 3,500 TV stations from all over the world. No matter what countrys TV stations youre looking to watch, theres a good chance they have them. From movie channels to sports stations to all kinds of movie stations, theres just about everything you could want. Its all in DVD quality too, since its digital.

To be honest, Im surprised that more people dont know about this. It seems like itll only be a matter of time before everyone has software like Satellite Direct instead of a traditional cable plan.

Here are a few of my favorite things about Satellite Direct. * After I paid $49.95 for the software, I never had to pay a dime again. No hidden costs, no subscription fees. * I get more channels than I do on my cable TV plan. * I canceled my home cable plan. I now hook up Satellite Direct to my 42-inch plasma, and Im able to watch all of my TV on my actual TV now. The quality is just as good as itd be on a regular HDTV. I wouldnt suggest canceling your cable plan until youve had at least a few weeks to play around with Satellite Direct, but I wouldnt be surprised if you ended up canceling yours too.

In recent years, with the advent of Satellite TV for PC software, I've been getting all of my favorite shows without cable or satellite bills. Better yet, with these simple software programs, I don't need a cable box, there is no complex equipment, all I need is my computer and an Internet connection (my new 40" HD TV/PC monitor helps as well).

The reason most people haven't adopted this technology yet is simply because they don't know about it, or because they haven't found a software package worth the money. There are many of these free-satellite-tv services out there, and sorting through them all can be quite difficult.

With that, let's first cover what a good satellite for PC service is and is not.

First, a satellite for PC service is NOT a good solution if your main TV viewing includes pay per view programs or expensive movie channels. Although you will find a huge variety of movie channels, live sports broadcasts, and some of the most popular channels, there is no pay per view with satellite streamed to your PC.

Second, NOT everyone will need satellite to PC software. If you don't have a decent computer (less that 3-4 years old) and an Internet connection this software won't work for you anyway.

Third, a satellite for PC program IS the best way to get up to 4000 channels with $0 spent on monthly fees. In fact, with the best services the only money you put out is a small one-time $40-$50 fee to get TV streamed to your PC 24 hours a day, 365 Days a Year. Considering that the average cable bill costs as much as $1200/year, that's $1150 you can keep in your pocket this year alone!

Fourth, if you don't take the time to choose the right satellite for pc service you'll likely just be wasting your money anyway. Worse than that, with the poorest services, they really are fly-by-night operations and your TV enjoyment might end at any time.

To help, along with a group of friends, we went through the process of testing the top satellite for PC services. To evaluate each service we simply signed up for them and used them for a period of 3 months. We then shared our results and rated each service based on the following criteria.

* Number of Channels - How many channels could we receive at any given time. The best services had channel counts in the thousands.
* Quality of Channels - Our TV viewing requires more than just public broadcasts. Each service was rated based upon the quality of channels we could receive.
* Consistency of Service - With some services channels come and go. Higher ratings were given to those who had more channels, more consistently.
* Quality of Broadcasts - When streaming video through the Internet quality sometimes gets sacrificed. We gave higher ratings to satellite for PC software that brought high quality pictures.
* Support when Needed - Although these services are fairly straightforward, it is important to have help when you need it. We contacted the support teams for each of the services we signed up with and rated them on their responses.
* Value/Cost - Based on the above criteria was the service worth the money we spent. When compared to the monthly costs of cable obviously they were, but when compared to each other - did they provide decent value?
* Overall Rating - Finally we gave each service an overall rating based on all of our findings.

I just rearranged my bedroom, and I moved my t.v and satellite to the other side. When i was done i connected everything like normal, and turned my t.v on and it says "searching for satellite signal (771)" All of the other televisions in my house are working perfectly fine including the HD satellite downstairs. I know everything is plugged in correctly. Please help!

Unplug everything and then reconnect them and see if that helps it must be a plug problem.
