Can my lcd tv connect to my pc?
by admin on Jul.22, 2010, under Uncategorized
I already have 1 monitor but i would really want to try out and see if i can do dual monitors. I dont I have an extra monitor but i do have a tv that i can use. Is there anyway to connect the pc to my original monitor and my lcd tv at the same time? Are there any cables i need? Also if you can answer this, how will the 2 monitors work? How can i control both of them at the same time with 1 keyboard/1 mouse?
I can always get a video card, but will this work if my pc has an integrated video card?
my computer has a DVI port!
I heard that dvi cables dont carry audio or something like that, will doing this effect my audio in anyway?
Your LCD TV would need to have one of these ports:
DVI
HDMI (carries audio)
VGA
S-Video
It will most likely have HDMI if your TV is relatively new.
HDMI and DVI ports are interchangeable using HDMI to DVI adapters. They can be purchased for less than $10 each.

Only 1 port?
If you only see one port on the back of your PC, that means you're going to need to invest in a graphics card that has dual DVI ports at the least.
I suggest taking a look at any of the Radeon 5xxx series card (e.g Radeon 5450) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150469&cm_re=Radeon_5450-_-14-150-469-_-Product
It comes with 3 ports, DVI, D-SUB and also HDMI.

Windows automatically detects your second monitor and it will act as if the 2 monitors are joined together (i.e. your desktop spans across the 2 monitors)

Sure, get a DVI cable. Ofcourse output would be way better if you had HDMI, but DVI is good enough. You would need a DVI to RCA cable i guess.

You plug the DVI cable into both if you can.
Or you might need a DVI to AVI converter for the PC end (thats IF your tv even has a AVI input)
otherwise you’d need an HDMI cable, but again thats only if your PC has an HDMI port
You right click on your desktop (if you have XP, otherwise go to your display setting)
And you’ll have to set it up to run with dual monitors
oh.. but if you only have ONE video port on your PC, you cant do it
