Newegg TV: StarCraft II Testing & PC Upgrading

If you're a college student looking to play some Starcraft II in your down-time this semester, you'll definitely want to play the game at the highest resolution your PC can handle.
Today, Paul uses Starcraft II as a case study to test performance using a couple different PC configurations. Resolution was easy to max out by swapping to an upgraded 5770 video card, and upgrading to a Killer 2100 add-on gaming network card did show a measurable reduction in ping.
No zerglings were harmed in the making of this film.

@zlink8 Yeah that isn’t too bad if it is on ultra, idk if u can but it your quad core has intel’s turbo boost thing try setting it up as a really fast duel core b/c the game is optimized for that for a 2 core processor

@AresHeroSC I didnt realize it needed cpu that much! I’ll be alright though, I have an AMD Phenom II quad core 3.2ghz. 260M is the laptop gpu right? If so thats really good! I hit fps cap most of the time with my 4870 but alot of carriers sending out their little attacker things will drop my fps alot (i was getting like 25fps with 10 carriers with 8 attackers each over a big zerg base >_< , but thats running on Ultra at 1080 so i cant complain.)

@zlink8 If you are looking into getting a computer, know that a decent cpu helps. The game is designed to utilize the cpu for about 15% of the graphics calculations.

@InevitableCommotion I have a GTX 260M and i have it run a 23in external monitor on 1080p. I can’t put the settings fully on ultra though. Just High w/ a few added ultra components. The difference between high and ultra isn’t really that huge like low to medium or medium to high is. It really only adds a few more bushes to the maps and it might do some other subtle things w/ the death animations as well. It doesn’t cut out major things like the others though.

god, how is anyone this bad… worst starcraft player ever. Also the last game was not 60fps across the board, just look at the fraps counter in the corner. It was mid 40′s for most of the time.

This is such a terrible video. How can he honestly say that the gfx card let him play at “60fps across the board” when he was clearly getting no higher than 52fps max with dips down to ~36 while placing those pylons? The footage in this video is so incongruous to the supposed performance boost he was summarizing about at the end. Might want to clear that up.
