    …:) so this means the perfect app really needs to stream both the currently viewed channel AND the one you intend to select, before you select it ! This can either be used for instantaneous view switching or more sophistically to create a blend transition between current and new channel. I see I can stream up to four channels simultaneously out of my box so at least the box itself will be up to the job of supporting this envisioned transition effect.

    I think this interface is to “techy” for the average consumer. Something more intuitive and fluid is needed for the channel playback. Remember back in the days of analog TV you could switch channels INSTANTLY at the very millisecond you flicked the channel switch :)

    What you need in …
    What you need in this case is a dreambox. The dreambox have a webinterface where you can control the box. You can also stream the running tv program. In the web interface click on vlc. Then a .m3u file will be opened in vlc with informations like this: “192.168.1.101 vpid: 0x1ff apid: 0×200″ and so on, and the programm is playing over vlc.
