why does my pc always tell me that I dont have a compatible dvd decoder when I try to play dvd movies on it?

DVD Movies wont play on my pc because of this. Where is a good site I can get a free dvd decoder? I run on Windows XP.
Download VLC media player. It has all necessary codecs built in.
